All of us have bad days. And having anxiety means that its gets worse and that these “bad” days come around very often. But this blog is how to deal with a bad day, irrespective of the fact that you are suffering from anxiety or not.

My bad days are all about dealing with extreme levels of anxiety which is why the main points in this blog focus on anxiety relief methods which I follow.

There are two things you can do when you’re having a bad day. One, you can cry about it and sympathize with yourself or two, you can try to work towards making it better and even if it doesn’t get better, try to deal with it. The latter is what you should be doing.

For a very long time I’ve gone with the first option, which is cry and sympathize. I would shut everyone out, lock myself up. I wouldn’t be able to get out of my bed. But lately I’m trying to figure out different ways of making me feel better because crying just makes it worse.

So, let’s get started and let me tell you the different ways I handle my bad days.

  1. Don’t shut yourself from the world. Even though your mind says that it is the right thing to do. IT ISN’T. I’ve shut myself from the world for the longest time but after opening the door (even literally opening the door of my room) I’ve surprisingly been much better. Try to be with someone you love. Someone who makes you feel better.
  2. Distract yourself. Engage yourself in some kind of activity. You could read a book, listen to music or a podcast, go for a walk or talk to someone. Make sure you get your mind off the fact that you are having a bad cause it’s only then that you’ll feel better.
  3. Realize that it’s only temporary. You need to know that this won’t last forever. Only you are in control of what you think about.

Here are a few things I do to distract myself:

  • Write about what I’m feeling
  • Read a book
  • Watch a show
  • Paint
  • Play the piano
  • Convince myself that it’s alright and it’ll all eventually pass

If all this doesn’t work for you, I suggest you find out the reason you’re having a bad day and try to solve it. My bad days are days when I’m feeling extremely anxious and I’m not able to face the world. Sometimes (actually most of the time), the reason I’m feeling anxious is so small and irrational. So take that time out and tell yourself that what has to happen will happen and it’s not in your control. Once you accept this fact, life gets easier. I’m yet to accept it. But I’ve gotten better.
